Keystone Policy Center to Facilitate Indigenous and American Indian Listening Sessions

Starting January 27, Keystone Policy Center will facilitate a series of statewide listening sessions for Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) with Indigenous and American Indian community members. These sessions are designed to create open, welcoming spaces for participants to share what matters most to them in relation to Colorado’s state parks.

The listening sessions stem from CPW’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Tribal and community relations, the work of the American Indian Affairs Interim Study Committee, and engagement commitments tied to HB 25-1163, which was signed into law last year. Across the sessions, community members will be invited to share their experiences, priorities, and perspectives to help CPW gain clearer insight into what Indigenous and American Indian communities value, need, and hope to collaborate on regarding state parks. Key themes will be evaluated across all sessions to help inform future collaboration and decision-making.

Keystone Policy Center’s role is to serve as a neutral, third-party facilitator, supporting respectful dialogue, ensuring participants are heard, and carefully capturing the ideas, issues, and topics raised. Following the sessions, Keystone will synthesize what is shared into a final report for CPW. The dates, times and locations of the listening sessions are as follows:

  • Tuesday, Jan. 27 from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Colorado State University; Lory Student Center, Longs Peak Room 302 – 1101 Center Ave Mall, Fort Collins, CO 80521

This work builds on Keystone’s experience supporting Tribal engagement and consultation processes, such as our facilitation of Tribal Consultation efforts with the City of Boulder over the last several years. Across projects, our approach centers listening, trust-building, and accountability, recognizing that public lands and public decisions carry different histories and meanings for different communities.

All sessions are free and open to the public, with priority given to Indigenous and American Indian community members. More information is available at cpw.info/listening.
