CENTER FOR SCIENCE AND PUBLIC POLICY

Public Participation and Stakeholder Engagement

The interested public expect to hear from government officials before, during and after an agency makes an important decision.  The Keystone Center’s facilitators have designed and delivered public engagement processes that improve public policy, give officials access to information from the members of the public, give the public vital information about the purpose for government action and allow for careful consideration of alternatives.  At Keystone, we can turn potentially contentious public meetings into thoughtful venues for dialogue and deliberation.  We have helped local governments reach out to community members and federal agencies design national-level engagement.  In the process we have improved communication, calmed fears, corrected misunderstandings, sorted out which policies align with community values and which don’t and set the stage for agencies to make implementable solutions.

Examples of our work:

These examples demonstrate our ability to work at the smallest scale, bringing neighbors together to advance the future of their own community and at the largest scale, working across regions to produce informed federal action.
