Joint Fact-Finding

A joint fact-finding dialogue allows stakeholders with different interests to work together to uncover information that is helpful to resolving a conflict. Participants identify mutually trusted, credible experts and sources of information—or, in some cases, conduct new analysis—to answer questions. The final outcome is a common understanding of what is known about the issue at hand, what is still uncertain, and what further research is needed to help resolve the conflict or to support good policy. In the process, the participants may also build greater trust and understanding in learning how others rely on and interpret information.

For an example of this process, please see our Nuclear Power Joint Fact-Finding Dialogue.
