Keystone helps government, communities, businesses, and NGOs work together to understand, mitigate and minimize any adverse health impacts resulting from changes to the environment. Projects frequently must navigate trade-offs between important goals, as new chemical applications, settlement patterns, agricultural practices, transportation modes, etc., raise new questions about potential consequences for human health.
Projects include:
| Endocrine Disruptor Screening and Testing Advisory Committee (1998) | |
| Keystone facilitated the efforts of an EPA advisory committee tasked with making recommendations regarding establishment of a screening and testing program for endocrine disruptors, which are potentially harmful to both human and animal endocrine systems. Implementation of the recommended plan began in August 1999. The project was highlighted on a PBS Frontline segment focusing on endocrine disruptors, and written about in the New York Times. | |

| The Impact of Science and Technology R&D on the Economic Health, Quality of Life, and National Security of the U.S. (1988) | |
| Keystone convened a diverse group of experts to undertake a comprehensive assessment of the impact of science and technology R&D on the economic health, quality of life, and national security of the U.S. The group began with the thesis that the strategic, economic, and cultural well-being of the U.S. since WW II had been intimately related to the nation’s dominance in science and technology. To preserve this strength, policies were in need of reevaluation to adjust to new political, economic, and scientific realities. Participants developed a set of consensus policy recommendations for use by key decision-makers in Congress and the Executive Branch in navigating R&D needs associated with economic health, quality of life, and national security. | |
