May 1, 2003: Underlying Principles of a Multi-Pollutant Emissions Strategy was held at the American Gas Association. The event was co-hosted by Cinergy and the Ohio Environmental Council (OEC). Mary Kenkel, Manager of Federal Affairs for Cinergy, and Kurt Waltzer, Clean Air Program Coordinator for the OEC, gave two points of view on proposed legislation to reduce power plant emissions. Approximately 35 people participated. June 19, 2003: Key Issues in Electricity Transmission. The event was held at Edison Electric Institute, and was co-hosted by the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, PJM Interconnection and International Transmission Company. Public Utilities Commissioners Dave Svanda from Michigan and Marilyn Showalter from Washington State gave two points of view on the most pressing transmission issues of the day. Approximately 35 people participated. February 5, 2003: Can CO2 Sequestration Play a Role in Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions? The event was held at the House of Representatives in a Energy and Commerce Committee hearing room, and was co-hosted by Rio Tinto, Natural Resources Defense Council, Battelle and the Joint Global Change Research Institute. Steve Kleespie, Dave Hawkins, and Jim Dooley made presentations about the important role that sequestering CO2 can play to mitigate climate change, and the need to encourage research and development into technologies that can capture CO2 from power plants and prevent it from entering the atmosphere.
