Snow Science
Standards 1, 2.1, 4.1, 4.2, 5, and 6

Colorado is a state whose livelihood and lifestyles depend upon snow. It provides Colorado and many other states with water throughout the year. Colorado's travel and economies depend upon our knowledge of its dynamic properties. Students that study snow science at Keystone Science School explore the physical characteristics of snow and avalanches in the Colorado Rockies through hands-on gathering of information about the snowpack.

Students dig snowpits to examine the different layers of snow and examine properties which contribute to avalanches. A mini-snow science research project is a great way for students to utilize the scientific method to increase their understanding of snow science and the scientific process.
