Facilities, Staff and Logistics

At an elevation of 9,200 feet, our historic campus is nestled in the Snake River Valley and is built on the site of the Old Keystone Village, a former railroad and sawmill site which supported the silver and gold mining towns of Colorado’s history.

The Ten Mile, Front and Gore Ranges provide a dynamic setting for learning about the rich natural and cultural history of Summit County.

Campers stay in modern, log-style dormitories that comfortably accommodate 38 people each. Rives Hall, situated between the two dormitories, serves as both our dining hall and meeting space for morning and evening activities.

The staff to camper ratio is ~1:5. Counselors come from around the country to work with our campers and are recruited for their ability to work with children in an outdoor setting.

Meals are served in Rives Dining Hall and are prepared fresh daily with emphasis on good taste and nutrition. Most food preferences and dietary needs can be met.

Costs and Transportation
Program fees include instruction, activities, food, lodging, transportation once on site, group camping equipment and a camp T-shirt. Pickup at Denver's International Airport can be arranged for a roundtrip fee of $120.

Safety
The health and safety of each child is our primary concern. A medical form completed by a parent/guardian and the child's physician is required for each child prior to arriving at camp.

Keystone Science School staff is trained in Wilderness First Aid and CPR and carry first aid kits with them at all times. Costs for treatment arising out of illness or accident must be borne by the parent or guardian. Several medical facilities are located within a 10 to 20 minute drive of Keystone Science School.
