Keystone's Youth Policy Summit SM is a powerful education program that brings high school juniors and seniors together for concentrated, in-depth analysis of any one of a number of current real-life environmental, energy and public health problems.

Since 2004, Keystone Science School has partnered with the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science and Technology to gather students nationwide for a series of Summits, each a unique training and preparatory experience that engages a contemporary, science-intensive policy issue. Students develop the research, negotiation, problem solving, and policy analysis skills they will need to be successful in their future endeavors. Approximately 260 students have participated in the first generation of YPSSM programs, which have received outstanding reviews from students, teachers and evaluators.

Past Summit topics have included:

  • Sustainable Energy in Transportation
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Childhood and Adolescent Nutrition
  • Obesity in America
  • Sustainable Fuels

The results of each Summit, which include a report with signed agreements, are shared with
the White House, state governments, leaders in the industrial and non-profit sectors, and the
Congressional delegations from each of the students’ home states. Participants also make
presentations in their home communities and to national policymakers.
