Welcome to 2012 - Keystone Science School’s Summer of Legend!

Our popular Day Camp provides hours of non-stop science, adventure and fun each summer weekday.

Each week, this completely original program features a different science-based theme that speaks to the minds and imaginations of young campers. At KSS, your child can transform into a pirate, superhero, astronaut, or botanist— complete with costumes, hands-on activities, and outdoor adventures. We incorporate creative activities, teambuilding, and investigative learning into each day.

We provide specialized, age-appropriate programming for children age 5-12. Upon registration, your child will be enrolled in an age-specific group—Wonder Camp or Mighty Camp—each featuring activities and adventures suitable for kids at their specific developmental stage. As they grow up and return to camp each summer, every camper will be assured of a new, exciting experience!

This summer we’re offering an unprecedented FIVE sessions of our popular Splash Camp. These sessions, all based at the Silverthorne Recreation Center, will combine intensive indoor swim lessons with a water-based scientific theme and lots of splash-filled adventure (advanced registration required). Save $25 per Splash! Register for all five Splash Camp sessions and save $25 per session. That’s $125!

DAY CAMP SESSION 1
Topsy Turvy Time Twist Explosion
Dates: June 18-22
Cost: $300
Our first campers of the summer will travel through time learning about the past, present, and future of the Rocky Mountains. Meet gold miners, villains, dinosaurs, robots, and hot pink gorillas in this fan-favorite week brought in for another summer.

DAY CAMP SESSION 2
Super Slimy Science: Smash Camp!
Dates: June 25-29
Cost: $300
Science, adventure, and fun SMASH together for a special week that focuses on the scientific method. Activities include rocketry, dynamic experiments, and creative ways to smash watermelons, water balloons, and pies (into counselors’ faces)!


DAY CAMP SESSION 3
Superhero Power Week: Zombie Party!
Dates: July 2-6
Cost: $300
Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! A plane! It’s … your campers? Superhero POWER Week is back! Superheroes know that when people stay indoors too much … zombies happen. With the help of Camp Counselor heroes, real life heroes, and science, your campers will fight for truth, justice and a cure for zombies!


DAY CAMP SESSION 4
Amazing Animal Adventures
Dates: July 9-13
Cost: $300 (+ $25 for optional Wednesday Overnight)
Embark on a journey into the wilds of the Rockies. Search for signs of the diverse animal inhabitants that live right here in the high country. Learn about bugs, birds, bears and much more. Discover the secrets of how these diverse creatures live together and where humans fit into their puzzle. Unleash the beast with Keystone Science School for an unforgettable week!


DAY CAMP SESSION 5
Magical Mystery Mayhem
Dates: July 16-20
Cost: $300 (+ $25 for optional Wednesday Overnight)
CSI (camp science investigators) assemble! It’s time to discover your inner detective: we need your help to solve a massive mystery! Using the scientific method, campers search every inch of KSS on a quest to solve one of Summit County’s greatest unsolved cases. Campers will encounter intriguing characters, embark on hair-raising adventures, and work toward victory as a team.


SPLASH CAMP 1
Ooey Gooey Wacky Water Week
Dates: July 16-20
Cost: $325
Welcome to Splash Camp, a unique partnership between KSS Day Camp & the Silverthorne Recreation Center. In between swim lessons, study the wonderfully wet water cycle and discover where water comes from and where it goes. Find slime in nature—and then make your own. (Please note: All Splash Camp sessions are based at Silverthorne Recreation Center.)

DAY CAMP SESSION 6
DinoROAR! Prehistoric Party
Dates: July 23-27
Cost: $300 (+ $25 for optional Wednesday Overnight)
How’s your roar? This special Day Camp session blasts camp¬ers back in time to explore Colorado’s prehistoric past. We’ll learn about our cavemen ancestors, terrible lizards, and look for clues to determine which creatures used to inhabit the Rocky Mountains and swim above our heads. This session might be our Tyrannosaurus best!


SPLASH CAMP 2
Wild Wondrous Weather
Dates: July 23-27
Cost: $325
Ever want to be a weather man or weather lady? Now’s your chance. Study the many micro-climates of the high country. Learn just how shockingly cool lightning is. Rain, rain, go away? Not this week—we’re hoping for some weather! Bring your bathing suit for swim lessons and your rain jacket for outdoor adventures. We plan to stay wet and happy all week! (Please note: All Splash Camp sessions are based at Silverthorne Recreation Center.)

DAY CAMP SESSION 7
Space Your Face Off
Dates: July 30-August 3
Cost: $300 (+ $25 for optional Wednesday Overnight)
3... 2... 1... BLAST OFF! Get up close and personal with the cosmos using our solar telescope and state-of-the-art observatory. Campers will travel the galaxy visiting planets & stars, steering through black holes and supernovas, maybe even meeting some friendly creatures from planets far, far away. Key components include flight and rocketry. This session will truly be out of this world!


SPLASH CAMP 3
Radical River Adventures
Dates: July 30-August 3
Cost: $325
KSS takes it to the river with Splash Camp 3. If your child wants to get wet, this is the week! Campers participate in 3 swim les¬sons, a day hike focused on river ecology, whitewater rafting and plenty of splash-filled adventures! (Please note: All Splash Camp sessions are based at Silverthorne Recreation Center.)

DAY CAMP SESSION 8
Camp-Olympics: Games of Glory!
Dates: August 6-10
Cost: $300
On your mark… get set… GO! As the London Olympic Games kick off, so do ours. Campers will learn about human health, fitness, and the joys of challenging themselves as they dare to reach for the gold. This week is all about health and movement as campers run, jump, and play towards glory!


SPLASH CAMP 4
Beneath the Surface: Lake of Legends
Dates: August 6-10
Cost: $325
Our fourth round of Splash Camp pairs indoor swim lessons with an up close and personal look at the ecology and history of Lake Dillon. We’ll incorporate plenty of adventure with hikes, a sailing expedition, and lots of splash-filled fun! (Please note: All Splash Camp sessions are based at Silverthorne Recreation Center.)

DAY CAMP SESSION 9
Camp Castaway: Pirates Vs. Ninjas
Dates: August 13-17
Cost: $300
A pirate’s life is a wonderful life—a pirate’s life for me! Welcome to the Rocky Mountain high seas of adventure: swim with sharks, rescue mermaids, walk the plank, and discover the true treasure of summer camp. But beware: A new ship has docked upon the shores of KSS. Ninjas are invading, and pirates and pixies must meet the challenge with their scientific knowledge of water and world culture. This week will be aaarrgh-some!


SPLASH CAMP 5
Jaws of Summer: Focus on the Fish
Dates: August 13-17
Cost: $325
This will be a whale of a week as campers explore fish habitats near and far. Campers will test out their own fins with a few rounds of intensive swim lessons, and then spend a little time out of the water, with a day hike focused on fish and their habitats, a trip to the Denver Aquarium, and a research expedition to the Leadville Fish Hatchery. (Please note: All Splash Camp sessions are based at Silverthorne Recreation Center.)
